Woke??? A poem

 WOKE?

We were having a discussion

At first civilly we spoke

But our talk became strained

And he called me WOKE

I looked at him puzzled

Asked: what does that mean

He glared at me with anger

Which from him I'd not seen

He called me a leftist

Angered as he spoke

I could see from his expression

This wasn't a joke

Keeping my calm

I asked him with deference

What made me WOKE

Please give me a reference

His answers were vague

with vitriol he would spew

Not in words but anagrams

CRT and LGBTQ

Then, I'm not privileged!

He loudly exclaimed

I worked hard my whole life

For all that I've gained

You all use white privilege

To make me feel shame

Because you don't have what I have

And need someone to blame

He continued his rant

With strong declaration

That people like me

Were destroying this nation

You're taking away

Our Second Amendment right

But you won't get it

No sir, not without a fight

Your biased media

Censors our speech

While liberal educators

Corrupt the young as they teach

Then he became quiet

And spoke in a tone

That frightened me deeply

Down to the bone

We'll take our country back

It's not too late

For people like me

A true faithful patriot

I'd heard quite enough

In fact far beyond

But knew to keep it civil

To effectively respond

Please let me address

Your freedom of speech

For I disagree that

That it has been breached

Where are you stopped

From speaking your mind

I see so many places

There are plenty to find

As for banning books

And what may be taught

Wasn't that a reason

World War 2 was fought?

Racism and White privilege

Hating LGBTQ and CRT

Fighting these things

Is what America should be

This country, its Constitution

Isn't just about the few, you or me

It's freedom opportuniy for all

Applied with equity

Sounds to me like your fearful

Sacred of what you see

That you're no longer in charge

That you not the majority

You cover your fear

In the Star Spangled Banner

Making it an excuse

To hide hate and bad manner

You're no hero of freedom

You don't fight for the just

You want things only your way

Leave the rest in the dust

I love this country dearly

I think more than you

Because I listen respectfully

To the hate that you spew

America is a great nation

Of opportunity and plenty

But not for the few

It was created for the many

So if I am WOKE

If that is what you see

To be Constitutional and fair

Then that I am proud to be
