It comes as no surprise to those who read my previous posts
that my candidate lost. Lost in a free
and fair election. Just like the
previous ones. Now I must respect the
office of the President and allow he and his cabinet the time to prove to
Americans that the majority was right in electing them and that this
administration will support our Constitution and democratic republic upon which
it is built.
I have always maintained that all of us must have an open
mind and civil tongue.
With that in mind –
my first step is the open mind. To wait
and see what this administration does for ALL Americans, not only those who
voted for them. If they do that, If they
uphold the Constitution, if they make life better for the vast majority of
Americans then I must acknowledge that.
If the GDP continues to improve as it did under the previous administration. If unemployment continues to stay low or even
decline further. If our infrastructure continues to improve. If education of children is improved and no
child goes hungry. If civil liberties
are not infringed upon and the Constitutional rights are applied to ALL
Americans. If minorities are not cast as
separate because they are the minority and treated equally in all areas. If quality of life for all improves for all –
then how can we be against that.
So – I keep an open mind.
As to the civil tongue, should this administration start to veer away from
those aspects I cited above. Move away
from the Constitution, away from equality under the law for all, and seek to
impose the will of the few upon the backs of the many. Then my civil tongue will speak out in
disobedience. Just as it did in the late
60s and early 70’s to bring more rights to people of color. More rights to women. More rights to people of different cultures,
color, religious beliefs and gender identity.
But first we must give them a chance. We must not pre-judge them as some of those
in the previous 4 years had done to the previous administration. We must be
calm and look at facts. If this
administration does make positive gains for ALL, let us acknowledge that. Let us look for facts and not let our biases
and fears state they are “Fake News”.
Opposition simply for the sake of opposing – based upon bias and fear is
wrong. It is bigotry.
So I will watch this administration. I will do so with respect. I will research the data across multiple
sources and base my decision and actions not on my personal biases but upon
evidence… proof!
